TRAGEDY Durban City midfielder Sinamandla Zondi died following a sudden collapse during a Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Milford FC on Tuesday.

A FOOTBALL player, playing for Durban City, died suddenly following a Motsepe Foundation Championship on Tuesday evening.
In the match at Chatsworth Stadium against Milford FC, reports indicate that a player collapsed during the clash. The match was suspended immediately as the player received medical assistance. Despite their best efforts, it’s also believed that the player died before he made it to the hospital.
Later, Durban City confirmed that midfielder Sinamandla Zondi had died.
Durban City released the following statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Sinamandla Zondi aka Sgora, a loved member of the Durban City family.
“Sinamandla was more than a talented footballer. He was a teammate, a friend, a brother, a son, and an inspiration to all who knew him.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by this tragic loss.
“We will continue to support those close to him during this difficult time.”
At this stage, it’s believed a concussion led to the collapse of Zondi, or if the player had any underlying medical conditions.
Durban City currently top the Motsepe Foundation Championship log after 25 matches, with a five-point cushion over Kruger United.
