Kimberley’s young soccer talent will soon have another platform to shine as the Spakes Soccer Development Centre prepares for its official launch on April 5, 2025.
Set to kick off at 9am, the event will be hosted at Vuyolwethu High School.
Spearheaded by Programme Manager and Project Director Mr. Mbulelo Jack, alongside renowned coach Kagisho "Spakes" Matile, this initiative aims to nurture young soccer talent. Matile, a newly certified coaching educator, brings a wealth of experience to the project, which seeks to develop aspiring players within the community.
The Spakes Soccer Development Centre will provide training and development opportunities for children aged seven, nine, 11, and 13 years. The programme includes soccer clinics, matches, team-building exercises, and scouting opportunities.
Priority will be given to young players who are not currently registered with clubs, ensuring that previously overlooked talent gets the chance to flourish.

The programme has already produced success stories, such as Emile Witbooi, who progressed through its ranks to play for Cape Town City and has even attracted interest from English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United. This highlights the initiative’s potential to uncover and develop future soccer stars.
Originally founded in 2013 in a backyard on Matopo Street, Galeshewe, due to a lack of proper facilities in Kimberley, the programme has since grown significantly. Now based at Vuyolwethu High School, training sessions and events will be held every Saturday, as well as during special and school holidays, providing young players with consistent opportunities to hone their skills.
Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children are encouraged to register in advance, as space is limited.
For bookings and further information, contact Project Manager Mr. Mbulelo Jack at 082 937 7234.
With a strong commitment to youth development and soccer excellence, the Spakes Soccer Development Centre is set to become a cornerstone of grassroots soccer in Kimberley, giving the next generation of players the opportunity to reach their full potential.
