As the final round of the FNB Varsity Shield approaches, crucial battles for promotion, semi-final placements, and relegation survival take center stage.

With automatic promotion to the FNB Varsity Cup on the line, log-leaders FNB Varsity College need just two points in their last match to secure their spot. Meanwhile, second place will still have a shot at promotion via a play-off.

Gemmies also have the chance to shake up the semi-final seedings. A UWC loss would cement the Cape side in fourth spot, setting up a semi-final against Varsity College. However, if they beat SPU with bonus points, they could climb as high as second, depending on the outcome of the FNB CPUT vs FNB Madibaz clash.

That fixture is effectively a battle for second place, with home-ground advantage and a more favorable semi-final draw at stake.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, UKZN, UFH, and WSU are tied on seven points, with one team set to face a relegation play-off. UKZN and UFH go head-to-head in a crucial decider, while WSU face a tough challenge against the log-leaders, needing every point possible to avoid finishing last.

With promotion, semi-final matchups, and relegation all at stake, the final round promises a thrilling finish to the Varsity Shield’s round-robin stage.

And the Gemmies team will be boosted immeasurably by a good turnout at this evening's clash at the Suzuki Stadium. The match kicks off at 5pm.
