Kimberley is once again set to welcome a massive influx of visitors as the fourth edition of the Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament kicks off from April 30 to May 3.

The event promises more than just thrilling football action, the event actually turns out to be a major boost for local tourism and the Northern Cape economy.

This year’s tournament, officially launched at Kimberley Boys’ High School and broadcast live on the SuperSport Schools App, has become a highlight on South Africa’s school sports calendar.

Over the years, the partnership between Absa and Wildeklawer has left a positive mark on Kimberley, bringing in millions of rands annually and filling up accommodation across the city and beyond.

In fact, the event draws such large crowds that visitors often have to book stays in neighboring towns, showcasing the tournament's wide-reaching impact.

Local businesses, from hotels and guesthouses to restaurants and shops, thrive during the event as football fans, players, and their families travel from across the country to witness the action.

This year promises to be no different, with top teams from across South Africa set to compete. 

Defending champions Clapham High School will aim to retain their title after a stellar performance last year, where they edged out Grey College 2-1 in a gripping final. Kimberley Boys’ High School will proudly represent the host city, facing strong competition in Group A.

As the teams gear up to battle it out on the field, Kimberley stands ready to welcome the influx of visitors eager to enjoy not just top-tier school football but also the rich history, culture, and hospitality of the Northern Cape town. 

The Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament continues to shine a light on the region, cementing its place as a hub for youth sports and tourism.

With the countdown officially on, Kimberley eagerly awaits the arrival of players, coaches, and supporters who will not only enjoy the beautiful game but also contribute to the city’s growing reputation as a prime destination for sports tourism.
