THE KIMBERLEY Diamond Cup is back, promising an epic weekend of skateboarding action, live music, and a much-needed revival of community spirit in the heart of the Northern Cape.

This year’s event brings together top skaters from across South Africa, along with international talent from Russia, Germany, and Dubai, cementing Kimberley’s reputation as South Africa’s skateboarding capital.

Skateboarding Action

The competition features four categories – Under-16 Boys, Men’s Open, Girls’ Under-16, and Women’s Open – giving both rising stars and seasoned pros a chance to shine.

Preliminaries for the competition kick off on Friday, March 21 (4pm – 9pm), with the finals taking place on Saturday, March 22 (10am – Late), with the climax of the event happening under lights!

The good news is, if you haven’t qualified yet, don’t worry – skaters can still compete in the finals by showing up and showing their stuff during Friday’s preliminary round.

More Than Just Skateboarding

And as a bonus, there’s so much more for spectators to enjoy, much more than just the skating action. For one thing, the event is completely free to attend, and in addition to that, it offers:

  • Food and Clothing Stalls to browse and enjoy.
  • Live Music: A free concert featuring Focalistic, Leemckrazy, and local DJs will keep the energy high.
  • SA Tourism Activation Stand: Check out some cool virtual reality experiences.
  • Competitions and Red Bull Sampling throughout the day.
  • Unlimited Free Water courtesy of Manzi Water – so your hydration concerns are sorted!

Important Venue Rules

To keep the event safe and family-friendly, there are a few rules to keep in mind:

  • No Alcohol from Outside: There’s a dedicated beer tent on-site if you’re looking for some refreshment. And don’t worry, the beer tent isn’t about overcharging – the service provider frequently works with university students and keeps prices fair.
  • No Hookah Pipes: These pose a safety risk in crowded spaces, so they’re not allowed. Vapes will be permitted.
  • Limited Space: The concert is free, but space isn’t unlimited. Arrive early to secure your spot – safety and compliance with disaster management protocols are top priorities, so there is a possibility that latecomers could be turned away.

A Story of Determination

Oh, by the way, do you remember Noel from Mozambique?

A short while back, Noel made headlines when he traveled to South Africa with no money, determined to compete and win. When asked how he’d get back home, he confidently said he’d win – and he did!

Noel took the top prize at the Bloem Grand Slam, using his winnings to support his family and enroll in a course to build a career.

Now, he’s back to chase glory once again, and he’s definitely one to watch!

Be Part of Something Bigger

The Kimberley Diamond Cup is about much more than the sport. The KDC supports youth development and empowerment as well.

Constant and dedicated efforts are being put in to shape the skatepark into a safe space where young people can grow and thrive, and events like the Kimberley Diamond Cup are a crucial part of that vision.

Don’t miss out! Come on down to the KDC Championships on March 22, 2025 – and if you’re a skater hoping to compete, make sure to show up for the prelims on March 21.
