MUZOMUHLE Mcebiseni Khanyi, a talented player on the South African football scene, has been making waves in the domestic leagues.
Born on March 30, 1999, the 25-year-old Khanyi currently plays as a centre-forward for Hungry Lions FC. Standing at 1.69 metres, he is known for his agility, speed, and predatory goal-scoring abilities.
And it’s Khanyi's recent performances that have caught the attention of several top PSL and international clubs.
Orlando Pirates have been keeping tabs on him, and in November last year, the rumour mill was churning out the story that the Soweto giants were considering him as a potential addition to their squad.
Stellenbosch FC, another PSL club, have also shown interest in the talented striker. Additionally, his performances have reached beyond South Africa, with Botswana giants Township Rollers expressing interest in his services.
Khanyi's career has seen him play for several clubs in South Africa, including Cape Umoya United and Platinum City. During the 2019/20 season, he made 11 appearances for Cape Umoya United in the GladAfrica Championship, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.
The following season, he joined Cape United in the National First Division (NFD), where he made four appearances. In the 2021/22 season, he played for Platinum City in the NFD, making nine appearances and contributing one goal and two assists.
HELPING THE LIONS ROAR
Khanyi's move to Hungry Lions FC in the 2022/23 season marked a significant turning point in his career. He scored six goals and provided four assists in just six appearances in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
His impressive form continued in the 2023/24 season, where he scored five goals in five appearances for Hungry Lions. In the current 2024/25 season, Khanyi has been in excellent form, upping his game and scoring 11 goals in seven appearances, helping Hungry Lions qualify for the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
“Interest is growing in Muzi Khanyi as more clubs in the PSL and abroad are keen on his services,” a source close to the situation disclosed. “Township Rollers from Botswana are among the clubs that are showing interest, and it looks like it will be difficult for Hungry Lions to hold onto the player beyond this season.”
However, the source was quick to add: “While interest from abroad is appreciated, the player and his camp would be keen on a local move at this stage of his career, especially with top clubs like Pirates and Stellenbosch in the picture.”
With his current form and the growing interest from top clubs, Muzomuhle Khanyi's future looks bright. He is definitely a player to watch, and it will be interesting to see where his career takes him next.
