THE SUZUKI Griquas are going to have an extra quiver in their bow this season simply due to the fact that the ‘gees’ on the spirit of cheerleading shone brightly in Kimberley this past weekend as the Griqua Diamonds held their highly anticipated tryouts.

The Saturday morning event saw a turnout of young athletes eager to put their skills on display, as well as their passion and teamwork in hopes of securing a coveted spot in the squad.

The air buzzed with excitement as participants, varying in age and experience, demonstrated their tumbling, jumps, dance abilities, and coordination. Every routine brought cheers from supportive friends, creating an atmosphere of thrills on and beside the field.

From early on it was clear that the judging panel had a tough task ahead of them.

Coach Bridgitte Vandeventer-Potgieter, one of the key figures at the event, expressed her admiration for the athletes' dedication. “The talent was amazingly outstanding,” she said. “It’s incredible to see so many passionate and skilled individuals coming together to represent our community.”

As expected, with so many impressive performances, the selection process proved challenging. But the judges carefully evaluated each contender based on skill, enthusiasm, and potential to ensure a well-rounded team. For those who made the cut, this marks the beginning of an exhilarating journey as part of the Griqua Diamonds cheerleaders.

The team’s journey officially begins this week with rigorous training sessions designed to hone their skills and foster team unity. The squad will play a crucial role in elevating the game-day atmosphere at Suzuki Stadium, bringing energy, pride, and unwavering support to the Suzuki Griqua Rugby team throughout the upcoming season, starting with the SA Cup in early March.

Vandeventer-Potgieter emphasised that cheerleading is about more than just routines and performances. “For me, it's not just about cheerleading. It’s also about building confidence, teamwork, and memories that will last a lifetime.”

As the Diamonds prepare to become a part of Kimberley’s rugby culture, they are ready to inspire, entertain, and rally the crowds in support of the Griqua Rugby Team.

Fans can look forward to an unforgettable season filled with high-energy performances and plenty of team spirit.
