GRANTED, the weather in Kimberley has been a bit up and down of late, but the good news is that this weekend will be somewhat of a scorcher, and that should mean two things to the brave gentlemen out there – sunscreen and Speedos!

Yes, the Northern Cape leg of the Hollard Daredevil Run 2024 takes place this Friday, November 1 at the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley.

The Hollard Daredevil Run is committed to supporting those who have felt alone on their cancer journey. By promoting early detection of prostate and testicular cancers, the initiative aims to shift those at risk to a position of protection, with a 95% survival rate for early-detected prostate cancer and over 98% for early-stage testicular cancer. So it’s definitely a worthwhile cause.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the event, and thousands of men across the country – Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, and Greenpoint in Cape Town and our very own Diamond City – are set to make a powerful statement in support of prostate and testicular cancer awareness.

At its core, the Hollard Daredevil Run aims to foster a culture of openness among men regarding their health – particularly concerning male cancers. By participating, men are encouraged to talk more openly about the risks, symptoms, and critical importance of early detection of both prostate and testicular cancer.

One past participant shared a life-saving experience, saying, “You saved my life. I had a PSA test at the Hollard Daredevil Run and they picked up that I had signs of early prostate cancer. I’d never have known if it hadn’t been for the run.”

Supporting the Hollard Daredevil Run also means supporting broader access to cancer education and testing, particularly in underprivileged communities. Every entry helps fund these crucial efforts, spreading the message that early detection can save lives.

Everyone is invited – from individuals to corporations, schools, and sports clubs – to get involved and rally behind this vital cause.

Registration costs R180 and tickets can be purchased HERE.

All proceeds from the Hollard Daredevil Run go to CANSA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa, to fund testing in under-resourced areas and increase awareness, support and research.

Corporates, schools, tertiary institutions, sports clubs, and communities are urged to enter the Hollard Daredevil Run and play your part in prostate and testicular cancer awareness and increased early detection.
