In a dramatic showdown during the Diamantveld T20 Cricket Festival on Friday afternoon, on the notoriously tricky Country Club B pitch, hosts Hoërskool Diamantveld pulled off a stunning victory over HTS Drostdy by the slimmest of margins – just a single run.

Diamantveld batted first, but their top order crumbled under the pressure. Captain Luhan De La Rey and De Wet Fourie were both dismissed for ducks, while Simon Liversage could only muster three runs.

The early collapse seemed to set the stage for a tough day at the office.

However, a determined Benjamin Potgieter steadied the innings with a solid 25 runs, and Kaiden van Wyk added a crucial 32. Despite their efforts, Diamantveld’s total looked modest as they posted just 100 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

When HTS Drostdy came in to bat, they looked well on their way to a comfortable win. With their top-order firing, the momentum was clearly in their favour. But Diamantveld’s fielders and bowlers had other ideas.

Tight fielding and disciplined bowling turned the tide, gradually slowing Drostdy's run rate and keeping the pressure on.

Francois Holtzhausen led the charge with the ball, taking three wickets, while De Wet Fourie chipped in with two. But it was Simon Liversage, recovering from his earlier batting disappointment, who delivered the final blow.

In a pressure-packed last over, Liversage delivered a series of dot balls and claimed two crucial wickets, sealing a thrilling victory for Diamantveld.

Let’s see if they can keep the momentum going.
