Students from the Welcome Estate-based Karate Zen performed well at the organisation’s Young Warrior's Cup event, held in Parow, recently. The young fighters competed in Kata – an individual performance of the art per age group – and Kumite where opponents of equal stature fight within a time constraint to attain a score to win the bout.
Despite having had little time to prepare, the youngsters, all of whom started karate earlier this year, put in extra days and hours of training to win medals in various divisions.
