LOCAL dart enthusiasts are in for a thrilling weekend as Kimberley gears up to host an international darts tournament. Organised by Devon Petersen, former South African professional darts champion, and African Continental Tours, the competition promises to be a highlight for the local sporting community.
The tournament, set to take place at Kevin Nkoane Primary School, will be held this weekend, starting at 10am on Saturday and Sunday. The competition is open to the public at no charge, and this provides an excellent opportunity for fans to witness live top-tier darts action.
Petersen, a significant figure in the darts world, is at the helm of this exciting event. In addition, Agency 7 will be live streaming the competition, ensuring that those unable to attend in person can still catch all the action.
Above the thrill of the local spectacle, this tournament holds significant stakes, as the winner will earn the honour of representing South Africa at the prestigious Pro Darts Corporation World Cup in 2025. With a whopping 100-150 players from across South Africa and Africa expected to compete, the level of competition this weekend is anticipated to be exceptionally high.
The tournament format will feature a round-robin stage, followed by knockout rounds. The top 32 players will advance to the knockout stages, culminating in the semi-finals and finals, all of which will be live-streamed.
A prize pool of R40,000 is up for grabs, adding to the excitement and competitive spirit.
This international tournament will be buzzing with action and will feature 16 boards in play simultaneously, with the finals set to take place on the main stage, ensuring a spectacular viewing experience for all attendees.

The entry fee is R100, and participants are encouraged to register by contacting Donavon Pillay at 082 788 7199. The Drawn Doubles tournament will kick off at 6pm, with the first matches starting at 7pm.
