AFTER being removed from television almost a month ago, Newzroom Afrika journalist and anchor Aldrin Sampear returned to the screen on Monday.
On live television, while expressing his gratefulness to be back, Sampear explained what had taken place.
“On 17 April, I was involved in a traffic incident which resulted in a confrontation between me and another driver,” he stated.
The event, which unfolded on Thursday, April 17, on the busy streets of Randburg, Gauteng, was captured by 20-year-old Laricia Augusto.
Augusto claims Sampear was aggressive during an exchange following a minor collision between their vehicles.
At the time of the incident, Sampear went viral on social media as he went back and forth in a road rage incident with a woman.
“I want to take full responsibility for my actions. Although I did not assault the other driver, I believe I should have been more composed to de-escalate the situation, and I fell short of the standards I hold myself to.
"For that, I want to express my regret and sincere apologies to our viewers, my colleagues here at Newzroom Afrika, and management,” he said.
Sampear said he hopes that his actions from this point forward will work towards building trust and confidence in him as he continues in the industry.
“To the babies out there, I just want to say Uncle Aldrin is very, very sorry. I hope that you will be able to forgive me.
Sampear was placed on a break by his management on April 22.
"Newzroom Afrika takes the allegations very seriously, and we will work swiftly to address the concerns raised," the broadcaster said in a statement.
