The Madlanga Commission has postponed the testimony of North West businessman, Suliman Carrim, shifting his appearance to March 9 and 10, following his alleged role in infiltrating the justice system.

Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga ordered Carrim to file his written witness statement by February 27, rejecting attempts by his legal team to delay compliance despite a fresh application.

“Carrim’s testimony is postponed to 9 and 10 March. He must furnish a statement to the commission by 27 February,” Madlanga said.

The directive follows a decisive blow in the Johannesburg High Court, which dismissed Carrim’s urgent bid to block a subpoena compelling his appearance, branding the application an “abuse of process”.

Carrim had approached the courts arguing the commission acted unfairly in summoning him.

The ruling cleared the way for his testimony and reinforced the commission’s powers to compel evidence.

A senior ANC figure in the North West, Carrim serves as treasurer of the party’s Ngaka Modiri Molema region.

His name surfaced during earlier evidence, triggering questions about alleged transactions and political influence.

The ANC in the province has confirmed Carrim remains a member in good standing.

Party leaders have adopted a cautious stance, declining to comment on the allegations until the commission completes its work.

The commission now turns to March, when Carrim will be required to testify under oath publicly next month.
