Witness F is expected to return to the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, a day after delivering testimony that pulled back the curtain on alleged police interference, shadowy relationships and troubling questions about the integrity of a murder investigation.

His testimony would still be partially in-camera.

On Tuesday, the commission was presented with WhatsApp messages, screenshots and voice notes that appear to place a serving police officer at the centre of possible obstruction, alleged firearms dealings and contact with an underworld figure.

The digital trail has intensified scrutiny of how sensitive investigations may have been influenced outside formal channels.

The testimony exposes communication between Witness F, alleged underworld tycoon Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, suspended deputy police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, and Siphiwe Mabuza, described as the nephew of the late Deputy President David “DD” Mabuza.

Witness F told the Commission that while working in proximity to Sibiya, his role was limited and operational, acting on instructions and relaying information rather than directing investigations.

He maintained he was not the decision-maker, and insisted he did not benefit from any alleged wrongdoing, framing his actions as part of routine policing amid competing pressures.

Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga has stressed that the testimony was troubling, especially knowing that the senior officers were in cahoots with syndicates.
