The Jacob Zuma Foundation has lashed back at claims that former President Jacob Zuma allegedly rubbed shoulders with notorious child predator Jeffrey Epstein.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party leader set South African tongues wagging after his name appeared in the latest release of Epstein files.

This comes after the US Department of Justice unsealed long-secured documents on Friday.

In an email in which the convicted child sex trafficker was tagged, an individual named Mark Lloyd requests the presence of an alleged Russian model named Vera.

In the email dated March 4, 2010, he wrote that her presence would "add glamour" to a dinner with Zuma, which was to be held the following evening at a hotel.

"I have been asked to help arrange a small dinner tomorrow night for President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.

"Jeffrey suggested that I invite you, as you would be certain to add some real glamour to the occasion," he requested.

Three days later, an individual shared details of the alleged encounter in another email exchange.

Those at the party were allegedly dazzled by Zuma.

"She was a delight last night and enchanted all those she met.

"Her beauty apart, she displayed an elegance and natural charm that is a rare combination to find anywhere these days.

"Jacob Zuma was much more impressive and engaging than I thought he would be!"

The foundation's spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi denied any links between Zuma and Epstein who died by suicide in 2019.

"The attempt to smear President Zuma by proximity to the unrelated crimes of a third party is unethical, irresponsible and intellectually dishonest.

"The Jacob Zuma Foundation will not participate in speculative narrative-building disguised as investigative journalism," Manyi said.

"The matter is closed."
