The Madlanga Commission continues on Wednesday morning with KZN Hawks, Maj-Gen. Lesetja Senona, expected to clarify his relationship with Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his meeting with KZN Police Boss, Lt-Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Senona appeared on Tuesday, where he was grilled by the commission for his close ties with Matlala.
He admitted to the commission that he accompanied Matlala to meet with Mkhwanazi at the UMhlanga Pearls apartment in KZN.
But he was unable to provide details of the meeting, stating that he could not hear what they were talking about.
“I was up and down, drinking and mixing my whiskey,” he said.
Senona said the first encounter took place in Pretoria, where Matlala was introduced to him by a relative of his wife who was romantically involved with Matlala at the time.
Senona told the commission that Matlala was presented to him as the owner of CAT VIP Protection Services.
“I took a liking to him,” Senona said. “He was humble, respectful, and likeable. We exchanged numbers.”
Under questioning, Senona conceded that the relationship developed beyond a casual acquaintance, describing it as a “brotherhood”.
He maintained, however, that the bond was personal rather than professional, and he insisted that he never engaged with Matlala in a business capacity.
The inquiry is underway.
