KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona is testifying at the Madlanga Commission.

Proceedings entered day 47 on Tuesday morning.

Senona was initially scheduled to testify last month, but following his brief appearance, an agreement was reached for his testimony to continue in January.

Senona is accused of assisting alleged criminal kingpin Vusimusi “CAT” Matlala in securing a R360-million South African Police Service (SAPS) contract.

His appearance follows testimony by suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who addressed the controversial disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

In a statement, the commission said it expects dozens of witnesses to testify in the coming months as the inquiry progresses.

The Madlanga Commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made allegations of corruption and the infiltration of the judiciary.

Hearings are being held at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria.
