A woman who is said to be a church leader has been handed a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of flashing in front of children in Rustenburg.
The Rustenburg Regional Court sentenced 36-year-old Zoliswa Menziwa to two years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, after finding her guilty of contravening the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act.
Menziwa’s conviction stems from a disturbing incident on June 1, 2022, when police discovered five adults and 11 children naked inside a house being used as a church in Sondela Phase 1, Boitekong, outside Rustenburg.
Menziwa was the only adult found clothed at the scene and was allegedly leading the church at the time.
The children — six boys and five girls aged between four and 12 — were immediately removed from the house and placed in the care of social workers before being reunited with family members.
The case was subsequently taken over by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, which conducted further investigations into the matter.
Menziwa was later found guilty, while the other five adults were acquitted.
In sentencing, the court imposed a two-year prison term, suspended on condition that Menziwa is not convicted of a similar offence during the five-year suspension period.
North West provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the sentence, saying police remained committed to fighting crimes against women and children.
He also praised investigators for ensuring accountability in cases involving vulnerable victims.
