The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of 58 Hino 700 Series trucks in South Africa after a potential safety defect was identified in the vehicles’ fuel pump housing.

According to the NCC, the defect may cause cracks to develop in the fuel pump housing when the truck is subjected to repeated high loads, which could lead to fuel leaks.

"The National Consumer Commission (NCC) hereby informs consumers that Toyota South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Toyota) is recalling certain Hino 700 Series trucks, which were made available for sale from 4 February 2025 to 9 November 2025. The recall affects 58 trucks," the NCC said.

"Toyota informed the NCC that the recall is due to a fuel pump housing that has an inappropriate surface treatment process done during production. Cracks may develop when repeated high load is applied to the supply pump, leading to a fuel leak. The Hino 700 series trucks were sold nationwide."

The NCC added that truck owners are urged to take the recall seriously and have their vehicles inspected and repaired at authorised dealerships at no cost.

"Owners of these trucks are urged to take this recall seriously and arrange for the necessary inspection and repair at their nearest authorised dealerships. All corrective work relating to this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer."

Last week, IOL also reported that the NCC had announced the recall of 372 Volvo EX30 vehicles in South Africa after a potential safety defect was identified in the vehicles’ high-voltage battery system.

The recall followed a notification from Volvo Car South Africa indicating that, in rare cases, the battery may overheat when charged to high levels, potentially leading to a thermal event and posing a fire risk.

"The National Consumer Commission (NCC) notifies consumers about a recall of 372 Volvo EX30 vehicles, as notified by Volvo Car South Africa. This recall affects certain EX30 Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance Vehicles Model Years 2024 to 2026, which were sold from 29 December 2025 in Gauteng," the NCC said.
