Mining company Exxaro Resources has confirmed that one of the men seen in the viral video has been identified as an employee of one of its contractors, Baagi Technology.
The two suspects were caught on camera assaulting a security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London, Eastern Cape.
In a statement posted on social media, the company said it was aware of the circulating video depicting the assault of the security guard and made it clear that the behaviour shown was completely unacceptable.
“One of the alleged suspects in the video has been identified as an employee of one of our contractors, Baagi Technology. Exxaro Resources does not tolerate any behaviour that is contrary to our values, and the alleged suspect’s access to our company has been immediately revoked. In line with our code of conduct, Baagi Technology is attending to this matter with the urgency it deserves," read the statement.
Earlier, police confirmed that the suspects have been released on warning.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the suspects are facing charges of common assault.
"They were processed and released on warning on January 1, 2026. They are scheduled to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on January 7, 2026," said Gantana.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are possible. No further information is available for release.
The violent incident, which drew significant attention on social media platforms, reportedly occurred after the guard confronted individuals who were allegedly parked improperly at the beachfront location.
Eyewitness posts about the video suggest the assault began when the guard asked the group to move their vehicle off the road near the beach before they attacked him.
