The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with an assault on a private security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London, Eastern Cape, that was widely shared online.
Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, SAPS spokesperson, said police had moved quickly after the footage circulated.
“The SAPS confirms the arrest of two suspects in connection with a viral video depicting the assault of a security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London,” she said.
The violent incident, which drew significant attention on social media platforms, reportedly occurred after the guard confronted individuals who were allegedly parked improperly at the beachfront location.
Eyewitness posts about the video suggest the assault began when the guard asked the group to move their vehicle off the road near the beach before they attacked him.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, praised the prompt action of law enforcement officers that led to the arrests.
The two suspects now face charges of common assault and are due to appear in court. Police have not disclosed further details about their identities or bail conditions.
Gantana emphasised that investigations are ongoing. “The investigation remains active, with further arrests likely. No further information can be shared on this matter,” she said.
