The 32-year-old man accused of the deadly Saulsville tavern shooting has appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrates’ Court, with the matter postponed to 31 December for bail investigations.

The man was arrested earlier this week and faces 12 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder following the early-morning attack on 6 December that left a dozen people dead and 13 others injured. Police allege he acted with two accomplices, who remain at large.

"It is alleged that in the early hours of 06 December 2025, at approximately 04:00am, the accused was at a tavern in Saulsville Hostel, where him and his two accomplices allegedly shot and killed twelve people and attempted to kill thirteen others, " NPA Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said.

He was apprehended in Limpopo on Sunday following a coordinated operation between Gauteng and Limpopo police, who intercepted him after tracing his movements. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

"The team, comprising of various SAPS specialised units, including Crime Intelligence, during investigations traced the suspect who was travelling to Botlokwa in Limpopo. They called the police in Limpopo and gave the description of the suspect and the vehicle he was travelling in," the police said on Monday.

"The 32-year-old suspect was intercepted by Limpopo Tracking Team on the R101 Road in Westenburg precinct. During the arrest, the team recovered an unlicensed firearm, hand gun, believed to have been used in the commission of the multiple murders. The firearm will be taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory for ballistic analysis".

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the accused will remain in custody pending further court proceedings and that investigations into the case are ongoing.

"In court, the matter was postponed to 31 December 2025 for bail investigations".
