The Gauteng Provincial Government has welcomed the arrests of two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of media personality DJ Warras.

Police confirmed on Monday that they had taken the suspects into custody following their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of Warras last week.

IOL previously reported that Warras was shot outside the Zambezi Building, where he had been working to secure property from criminal syndicates controlling hijacked buildings.

In a statement issued to the media on Monday, the provincial government welcomed the arrests.

"The Gauteng Provincial Government welcomes the swift arrest Of two suspects in connection with the senseless and cruel murder of DJ Warras, according to police reports. They apprehended the suspects at Morafe Hostel and are currently in custody".

The government added that preliminary investigations suggest Warras may have been targeted due to his work fighting criminal activity in the Johannesburg CBD.

"The cold-hearted murder of a community-oriented and socially conscious entrepreneur like DJ Warras must serve as a line in the sand for our city and our province. This tragedy will galvanise the provincial government and municipal authorities to expedite the ongoing efforts to dismantle the scourge of hijacked buildings and the violent syndicates that control them".

"The provincial government commends the exceptional police work that led to these arrests. This is a testament to the skill, commitment, and bravery of our hard-working detectives".

Acting Premier Jacob Mamabolo said that the government remains committed to supporting law enforcement.

"We are resolved that from this profound loss must emerge a stronger, more coordinated. and relentless effort to dismantle the criminal networksthat undermine the security and prosperity of Gauteng residents", said Acting Premier Jacob Mamabolo.
