The police investigation into the murder of media personality Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, continues to move forward as investigators question two "people of interest" identified early Monday morning.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the team that was established to investigate the murder of DJ Warras, led by the Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Investigations Unit, has taken in two people of interest for questioning.

"The duo was picked up this morning around 2 am from a hostel in Soweto. Investigations are continuing, and the team is following all possible leads in a quest to crack this case," said Muridili.

Context of the Inquiry

This move follows a public commitment made last Friday by national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola. During an oversight visit in Pretoria, Masemola stated that a "known suspect" had been identified and predicted a breakthrough by the end of the weekend.

While the questioning of these two individuals is a significant step, police have emphasized that they are still "following all possible leads" to ensure the case is cracked.

Background on the Case

DJ Warras was fatally shot outside the Zambezi Building in the Johannesburg CBD last week. The investigation has focused on several key factors:

  • Targeted Incident: Evidence suggests the shooting was a targeted hit.

  • Property Conflict: Stock, a director at Imperium Security, had been working to secure the Zambezi Building and had recently obtained five protection orders due to threats related to his work.

  • Evidence Collection: CCTV footage from the scene, showing a suspect with dreadlocks, remains a central piece of the investigative puzzle.

The Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Investigations unit remains the lead agency on the matter. As the questioning of the two individuals proceeds, the police have reiterated their commitment to a thorough investigation.

This is a developing story.
