Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi has taken a shot at the head of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement (AMM), Floyd Shivambu, over comments alleging corruption made by the former uMkhonto WeSizwe Party member.
The AMM held its inaugural national convention, from December 5 to December 7 at the University of Johannesburg's Soweto campus in Gauteng.
"I've sat in a meeting where, as an official item on the agenda, there was a discussion on how to steal government money," said Shivambu. "Even figures were mentioned that… that you must take this much… I'm not telling you fiction… We are not going to legitimate nonsense that pretends to be revolutionary."
In response, Zibi criticised Shivambu for his failure to report the alleged corruption.
"Only in South Africa will someone confess to being part of a conspiracy to steal, didn’t report it and get cheered for it. At some point we have to examine whether it’s the politicians, who are always showing us who they really are, that are the problem.
Shivambu, who was also a high-ranking member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) did not disclose which of his previous parties he was referring to but that they are considered to be the alternatives.
"The ones that are supposed to be alternative, can't be allowed anywhere near close to State resources. I speak boldly because I have been very senior in both supposed alternatives and I've got the clearest of knowledge."
"The character of these political parties will never change...There is a crisis of individual and collective narcissism which is not curable in both organisations," Shivambu added.
Under Section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004 (commonly referred to as the Precca) failure to report is a criminal offence.
