Metro Police are set to respond to allegations that their officers 'failed' to attend to an armed robbery in progress at a Durban shopping centre.

In viral footage, the Durban Metro Police vehicle can be seen entering the mall's parking lot.

It is believed that a heavily armed gang had just robbed a store and was offloading items, from trolleys, into their getaway vehicle.

Footage shows that while the men are at the vehicle, a Metro Police patrol vehicle drives into the parking lot.

The armed men then turn to focus their attention on the police officers, who do not engage but rather drive towards a parking spot at the mall.

While social media users have slammed the officers for failing to act, others believe the police were outnumbered and merely stumbled upon the incident.

Questions have been sent to SAPS and Metro Police for comment.
