KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service has confirmed that three people lost their lives in a devastating collision on the R61 near Shelly Beach on the morning of 1 July 2025.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha says paramedics responded to the scene at approximately 10am. The crash involved a bakkie towing a trailer full of potatoes and two other vehicles.
“The collision resulted in three fatalities, two critical injuries, and two serious injuries,” Botha said.
Paramedics provided immediate on-scene medical treatment to the injured.
"Due to the severity of some injuries, an aeromedical helicopter was deployed, requiring temporary closure of the road," said Botha.
An investigation into the exact cause of the collision is currently under way by the relevant authorities.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service also expressed sympathy to those affected.
"KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives."
