SIZEKHAYA Holdings has been awarded the Fourth National Lottery and Sports Pools Licence.

This decision, communicated by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), follows a lengthy evaluation of eight applications for the coveted licence.

The awarding of the licence was confirmed after successful negotiations with Sizekhaya, as noted in a report from the NLC. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition expressed gratitude towards all parties involved for their prompt negotiation efforts, ensuring that the announcement could be made ahead of the planned date of May 28.

However, this victory is tempered by the undercurrent of legal challenges, as the licensing process has already attracted scrutiny, leading to a judgment by the High Court.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) indicated that legal advice is being sought to appeal the ruling, underscoring the complexities entwined in this process. He also expressed his commitment to uphold all rights concerning the court's findings, while reiterating his promise to the bidders involved.

“It is most unfortunate that this matter has already become the subject of litigation,” said Department Minister, Parks Tau.

Tau emphasised the potential for growth under Sizekhaya’s stewardship. He expressed optimism for not only the operational success of the lottery and sports pools but also for the positive impact it could have on the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).
