Kruger National Park reopens roads after heavy rainfall

THE Kruger National Park (KNP) has made significant progress in reopening roads that were closed due to recent heavy rainfall. Following a report from the Roads and Technical Services department, KNP Management announced that most gravel roads are now accessible as weather conditions have improved.

Certain areas remain affected:

Main road between Skukuza and lower Sabie: Partially washed away. Lower Sabie is accessible via Tshokwane (H10) from Skukuza.

Tshokwane area: All gravel roads are open except S33, where water along the causeway remains high.

Sand and Sabie low-level bridges: Cleared of debris and now passable.

Road between Skukuza and Satara: Fully open.

Bush camps accessibility

Talamati Bush Camp: Reopens today, 17 January 2025, and will welcome guests.

Balule Camp: Accessible only via the Olifants River high-water bridge from the south. The low-water bridge remains closed.

Other Bushveld Camps: Fully accessible.

Continued vigilance

While the rains have ceased for now, the KNP disaster management team remains on high alert. Visitors are urged to exercise caution, particularly on gravel roads and when crossing low-level bridges, as conditions may still be challenging.
