Cape Town man bitten by his own pit bull
A Mitchells Plain man has been attacked by his own pit bull, leaving him with a deep wound under his arm.
Chadley October, 25, says there was a neighbourhood brawl in the street outside his home on Saturday night.
He explains that his dog, Buddy, was in the front yard, banging on the gate, trying to get out.
“There was a fight and I was trying to break it up and the dog got excited because of all the noise, the people were shouting,” says Chadley.
“He was banging on the gate the whole time and I decided to open it so that he could come out to me.
“When he came out he was ready to bite, his mouth was already open.
“I rushed to stand in front of the person who was fighting and he decided to come for me instead.
“I didn’t expect him to bite me because he is my own dog.”
Chadley said Buddy was “remorseful” and licked the wound after the attack.
The Beacon Valley man went to Lentegeur Hospital on Sunday to have his wound treated and bandaged.
He tells the Daily Voice Buddy was only trying to help.
“Buddy is a friendly dog that doesn’t bite anyone. I think this time he was just trying to stop what was happening or he was just trying to protect me,” he says.
“This is a family dog and we have him for our protection.
“We place him in the yard where we know that people won’t come into our yard.
“But he is not a threat, he would never just attack anyone,” he says.
“He would not have let go if he wanted to kill me, but I am still shocked.”
