Durban - A trip to the beach for a Durban man entertaining family from abroad turned ugly when robbers threatened to shoot his 3-month-old baby.

Offloading their vehicle, ready to kick off the Easter weekend on Thursday, Mohammed Khan, 33, of South Beach, said he was approached by two armed robbers who threatened to hurt his baby if he and his family, from Canada and the US, did not hand over their belongings.

“They used my baby as a way to get to us. They wanted us to give them everything but we refused,” he said.

“My family were absolutely traumatised. This was the first time something like this happened to them.”

He said security company KZN VIP and the Metro Police were driving past while they were being accosted.

“KZN VIP were absolutely helpful. They chased after the guys and helped arrest one of them. My family and I wish to thank them for their speedy response and assistance.”

Police confirmed that a case of attempted robbery was being investigated.
