Level 4 weather warning issued for Vryburg and Kimberley as thunderstorms approach

Severe thunderstorms and damaging winds are set to impact Vryburg and Kimberley on Monday, with additional alerts for Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and excessive lightning over the areas of Vryburg and Kimberley for Monday.

According to Saws, residents living in those areas are urged to also be on the lookout for hail and possible flooding in low-lying areas.

The forecaster has also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of Johannesburg, Mahikeng, Welkom and Klerksdorp.

In other parts of the country, it will be partly cloudy to cool.

Isolated scattered showers are expected over the central and eastern part of South Africa in the afternoon.

"It will be cold in places in the eastern half of the Eastern Cape," Saws said.
