Two people were killed in a horrific motor vehicle accident in Boshof.
TWO PEOPLE were killed in a horrific motor vehicle accident in Boshof on September 11.
The occupants of the vehicle – a police warrant officer, David Barrett, and his girlfriend, Danielle van Rooyen – were declared dead on the scene.
According to an eyewitness, it appeared as if the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a tree and crashed into a house.
The witness said that several blankets were used to cover body parts lying in the road after the accident.
“The vehicle, a Toyota Camry sedan, was split into three parts upon impact, while some pieces of the vehicle were still being removed from the house on Tuesday morning. Brake marks were evident for nearly 20 metres before the point of impact,” said the witness.
Free State police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the accident took place on Monday at around 4.45pm.
“The police were informed about an accident that involved a white Camry vehicle in Jacob Street, Boshof,” said Thakeng. “On the arrival of the SAPS, members found a white Toyota Camry sedan scattered across the road. Two bodies were also lying on the road. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene and certified them dead.”
Thakeng added that according to an eyewitness there was a massive explosion when the vehicle crashed into the tree.
“A case of culpable homicide was registered for further investigation.”
