A ROODEPAN school teacher, Lynwood van Niekerk, 41, who is facing rape charges after allegedly raping a learner, abandoned his bail application in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court today.
Van Niekerk is accused of raping one of his 13 year old learners.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the teacher is accused of raping the learner on numerous occasions between the September and October 2020.
The case was postponed to January 22 2021 for further investigation.
He was arrested on November 13 and remained in custody.
He made his first bail appearance on November 16, which was postponed for today.
Today the court had a special request from his family to engage with him to abandon his bail application out of concern for his safety.
