The Madlanga Commission is set to continue its public hearings on October 13.
In a short statement, spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said the Commission is taking a scheduled break from October 6 to 10 due to the unavailability of Commissioner Sesi Baloyi as she will be attending to her duties as a member of the Judicial Service Commission.
"This week the Commission's public hearings would have continued until Friday, October 3, but when the hearing resumed on Wednesday, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga adjourned it due to the inability of Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo to proceed with his testimony as a result of sudden illness," Michaels said.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said Khumalo is receiving the best medical care after feeling unwell on Wednesday morning.
"The General felt unwell after arriving at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College where he was due to continue with his testimony.
General Masemola is in contact with the senior officer and confirms that he is in good spirits and taking health advice from his physician," she said.
Earlier this week, the Commission confirmed Advocate Terry Motau's departure. Confirming this, the Commission said, "The commission confirmed that Advocate Terry Motau has stepped down from his role as chief evidence leader and has left the commission on good terms."
The Commission was launched shortly after KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi dressed in his Special Task Force camouflage uniform, implicated police minister Senzo Mchunu, his close associate Brown Mogotsi and Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya, as key and central tenets to the alleged interference in police operations, including the disbanding of a task team investigating political killings, back in July.
