IN A RAID on a house in Kuruman, the police seized four illegal firearms and ammunition and arrested two suspects.
The operation, conducted on Friday morning, involved a co-ordinated effort by members of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Highway Patrol, the Public Order Police, the K9 unit and Kuruman Visible Policing and Detectives.
Following up on information received, the law enforcement officials raided a residence in Kuruman, unearthing a cache of illegal weapons. Among the items confiscated were four firearms, ammunition, pangas and knives.
The two male suspects, aged 29 and 36, now face charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and dangerous weapons. They are scheduled to appear before the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court soon, while the police investigation continues.
The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the officers involved for their swift reaction and their relentless commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Province.
