A 27-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by the Noupoort police for possession of an illegal firearm and drug dealing.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane reported that on January 23, Warrant Officer Rodney Wales made the discovery while refuelling a state vehicle at a local garage. He noticed a man behaving suspiciously while carrying a sling bag and decided to follow him into a nearby gaming shop.

Inside the shop, Warrant Officer Wales observed the suspect attempting to hide something. Upon searching the bag, he uncovered suspected drugs and cash. Further investigation led to the discovery of a suspected illegal firearm, with the serial number filed off, hidden within the shop.

Additional officers were called to assist, resulting in the recovery of more drugs, including dagga and mandrax, hidden inside the premises.

The suspect has been charged with drug dealing and possession of an illegal firearm.

Sergeant Pilane urged members of the public to report criminal activities using the MySAPS app or by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
