A SWIFT, co-ordinated response by the Northern Cape police led to the arrest of 10 suspected armed robbers.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers reported that on Saturday, November 9, Crime Intelligence received information about a suspected criminal group who had met at a residence in Christiana, North West Province, allegedly to plan armed robberies at fuel stations in Warrenton in the Northern Cape.

At approximately 10am, Crime Intelligence units, alongside the Kimberley Flying Squad and the Hartswater Highway Patrol, carried out a tactical operation at the targeted residence. Ten suspects were apprehended at the scene.

Further investigation revealed a firearm in the suspects’ vehicle, along with various tools believed to be used in criminal activities.

The 10 arrested individuals, aged 40 to 65, are reportedly from the East Rand in Gauteng.

Colonel Ehlers said investigations into the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected house-breaking tools, and the contravention of the Immigration Act are under way.

Authorities seized a firearm, ammunition, burglary tools, and a Volkswagen Polo 8 worth an estimated R301,000.

The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, praised the team for their rapid response and emphasised the critical role of intelligence sharing in preventing serious crime and bringing offenders to justice.
