A MOVIE that is being produced for international audiences and that was filmed in the Northern Cape and Namibia, features three Kimberlites who formed part of the production team.

Linda Sonaba from Big Blue Productions said the movie was filmed at top-rated locations in the Province including Augrabies, the Tankwa Karoo National Park, Kalahari, Haksteekpan and Riemvasmaak hot springs.

“These iconic spots happen to be director David Moore’s favourite locations in the Province. It is his dream to see the Northern Cape becoming a serious player in the film industry. The movie showcases the hidden gems of the Northern Cape, while the production assistant, a producer and a data wrangler are born-and-bred Kimberlites,” said Sonaba.

She added that the movie, titled “Drunks Have Whiter Teeth”, was based on real-life stories that took place during the South African border war (Angola bush war).

“The movie follows four men who revisit the past and travel back to the place where one of them was blinded during their service in that war. It’s a long journey, making the film a serious road movie. It starts in the Western Cape, then travels through the Northern Cape and Namibia.”

Sonaba stated that the film was made against the backdrop of the desert as well as backpacking and camping sites in the Province.

She added that the crew donated supplies to young schoolgirls in Riemvasmaak while a huge chunk of the budget was spent on accommodation and catering, thereby investing in the local economy.

Director David Moore added that the Province had the potential to be exhibited as a prime tourism destination on an international platform.

“I have always had a big love for the Northern Cape and am already working on our next feature, a sci-fi movie that takes place in the Kalahari. We are currently in the funding stage and are in discussions with Australian producers and a streaming channel for buy-in. We plan to start shooting in September 2023,” said Moore.
