MURDER accused Clive Ferris, 67, was granted bail of R10,000 on Friday, following an appeal heard in the Northern Cape High Court on February 3.
Ferris and his daughter, Advocate Celeste Nameka, are facing several charges including murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession and discharge of a firearm, and acting with common intent.
This follows a shooting incident that took place in Minerva Gardens on December 21.
During the incident, Charmaine Anthony, 67, was killed after being shot, while her son, Lucan Anthony, was wounded after being shot in the leg and buttocks.
Ferris was previously denied bail in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court, while his daughter was released on bail of R5,500 on January 17 on the same charges.
Northern Cape High Court Judge Mpho Mamosebo on Friday attached various bail conditions when delivering her judgment.
The conditions include not interfering with the investigation, no direct or indirect contact with witnesses, not influencing or intimidating witnesses, and reporting regularly to the police station.
She refrained from reading out the reasons for her judgment.
Meanwhile, family members expressed their shock and disappointment over the court’s decision to release the accused from custody.
“It appears as if the life that was lost has no value,” they lamented.
