THE CRIME scene investigator who visited various scenes in Hartswater and Taung following the chilling murders of Danie Brand, 83, his wife Breggie, 73, and their daughter Elzabé, 54, on their smallholding in Magagong near Hartswater in July 2020, described how blood stains covered the walls, door and floor of the farmhouse.
The family members were assaulted with blunt and sharp objects, abducted and killed on July 26, 2020. Their bodies were found in the veld near Takaneng village near Taung.
The accused in the matter – Donald Seolesang, 22, Tshepo Visagie, 38, Kgomotso Mpumlwane, 45, and Tshepaone Melato, 21 – are appearing in the Northern Cape High Court this week where they are facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.
They were arrested after they were found in possession of a stolen car and items that were taken from the farm on the day of the incident.
The station commander of Marydale police station, Captain Siyabonga Mpofu, who was the crime scene investigator at the time, described how the farmhouse was covered in blood.
“There were blood stains on the wall, door and floor. A brown towel with alleged blood was also found on the scene,” said Mpofu.
He also collected evidence including a grey hat, earrings and spectacles from the farmhouse.
Mpofu added that the tyres and rims of the red Nissan Micra and the silver-grey Mazda that were taken from the smallholding were damaged.
“The Mazda was towed to Hartswater where it was examined, where the keys were found inside. I collected hair from the back seat of the Nissan Micra.”
A blue tracksuit top, a glove, a pair of black trousers and a green jacket were some of the items that were found inside the Mazda.
