THE KIMBERLEY Serious Organised Crime investigation team arrested two gang members operating in Kimberley for allegedly conspiring to kill a rival gang leader.
Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe said Deon May, 37, was arrested in De Aar on September 13 on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
“This follows the arrest of alleged gang leader George Barnet Peters, also from Kimberley, who was nabbed on August 31 in East London,” said Thebe.
“According to the allegations, May conspired with Peters to kill a rival gang member. During the course of the investigation the Hawks team obtained a search and seizure warrant and uncovered evidence linking May to the murder plot.”
Thebe stated that May appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 14.
He added that May and Peters would re-appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on September 21.
“They will both remain in custody. The investigation continues.”
