STAGE4 load shedding will kick in at 10am on Tuesday and last until Thursday.

Eskom announced that three Kendal Power Station units (1 920 megawatts maximum generating capacity) had tripped, forcing the implementation of stage 4 load shedding from 10am on Tuesday until 5am on Thursday.

“A full statement will be published in due course,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

On Monday Eskom hosted a media briefing to update the country on the latest on the load-shedding front.

“It was a disastrous week for generation. We had 42 units tripping during the week, 37 have returned,” he said.

Koeberg Unit 2 has been off since the beginning of the month because of mechanical issues and Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer said teams were working to return it to service.

On Sunday, Eskom announced it would be alternating load shedding between stages 2 and 3. However, the latest developments mean stage 4 load shedding has to be implemented.
