The multi-disciplinary team of Operation Vala Umgodi conducted operations in Pampierstad based on information about drugs, firearms, and suspicious activities, leading to the arrest of seven suspects.
THE MULTI-disciplinary team of Operation Vala Umgodi arrested seven suspects during disruptive operations in Pampierstad on Saturday, after they were found in possession of drugs.
During the operation, the SAPS members followed up on information about illegal drugs, firearms and suspicious activities taking place at certain identified premises in Pampierstad.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said on Monday that two women, aged 20 and 23, and four men, between the ages of 26 and 33, were arrested for illegal possession of drugs on Saturday.
“One male suspect, aged 31, was arrested for being in possession of a handmade firearm, possession of suspected stolen property and illegal possession of ammunition,” said Shemane.
“The police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R11,580 and money believed to be the proceeds of crime.”
Shemane added that all the suspects were expected to appear in the Pampierstad Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, applauded the members’ hard work and thanked community members for working together with the police in the fight against drugs.
