The body of an unknown man was found in Bultfontein road on Thursday morning.

Community members said that he had recently discharged himself from Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital.

“He wasn’t feeling well and was sleeping with us in the street. He was unable to get onto his feet this morning. We wanted to transport him back to the hospital in a shopping trolley but he refused. We don’t know if his family have been informed as he is from Douglas.”

SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes Unit had opened an inquest into the death of an unknown man.

“A passerby saw the deceased lying on the pavement opposite the Shell petrol station in Bultfontein road on December 19 at about 9.30am.”

He indicated that the deceased was estimated to be in his thirties.

“He is dark in complexion, has short black hair, slender and is about 1, 6 metres tall.

“He was dressed in a grey T-shirt, grey jeans and had a red cap and black sandals were found next to him.”

He requested anyone with information to call the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Thabang Kamolane on 082 302 0407.

“The investigation continues,” Kock added.
