THE DA has released the names of candidates who will be contesting for leadership positions in the Northern Cape.
Willem Aucamp, Harold McGluwa and Fawzia Rhoda will face off in the battle to replace Andrew Louw as provincial leader.
The provincial congress will be held on December 5 where the call for nominations to stand for election of the party leadership closed on Friday November 20.
DA presiding officer of the provincial congress, Desiree van der Walt, said that in less than two weeks, 325 delegates will participate in the congress that will be held via a virtual meeting.
“The Northern Cape provincial congress is to select the new provincial leadership to take the party forward into the 2021 local government elections and beyond.”
She added that robust contestation for the leadership positions were underway.
“The DA looks forward to an exciting and successful provincial congress, that will demonstrate the party’s resolve towards upholding internal democratic processes and create real hope and real change for all citizens of the Northern Cape.”
In terms of the internal regulations, candidates and their supporters are permitted to contribute and raise funds for their campaigns.
However, no donor may be approached to contribute funds unless the national fundraising department certifies that the donor is not on the national database of donors.
No existing donor to the party may be approached by any person or entity to solicit any donation in cash or in kind.
Candidates are expected to declare all donations received within 72 hours to the CEO for Federal elections and to the provincial director for provincial, regional, constituency and branch elections.
Any funds raised by donations that are not spent after the election has been concluded, must be paid over to the party where the candidate may be required to account for the money raised or spent, if necessary.
