Thabo Bester dismissed his legal representatives, resulting in a further adjournment of proceedings against him and his co-accused.

Bester, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, Senohe Matsoara, Cornelius Sekeleni, Teboho Dipholo, Buti Masukela and Teiho Frans Makhotsa, appeared in the Free State High Court for pre-trial on Friday.

Bester has appointed Advocate MoAfrica Wa Maila to represent him.

Meanwhile, Magudumana, through her legal team, also filed an application to overturn the Supreme Court of Appeal's ruling that dismissed her application, which challenged her extradition and arrest.

The matter has been postponed to December 5.

The accused face charges including fraud, corruption, aiding an escape, violating a corpse, and defeating the ends of justice.

Following his escape, Bester was re-arrested alongside Magudumana and returned to South Africa, from Tanzania, in 2023.
