Law enforcement agencies have successfully arrested two suspects linked to a series of violent hijackings on the N3 Highway.

Law enforcement agencies successfully arrested two suspects linked to a series of violent hijackings on the N3 Highway between Villiers and De Hoek Toll Gate.

The arrests took place on Tuesday, March 18 2025, following a meticulously coordinated operation.

The suspects, who impersonated police officers, used a vehicle fitted with blue lights and sirens to stop unsuspecting motorists before hijacking their vehicles.

Dramatic High-Speed Chase and Shootout

A multidisciplinary task force, along with local community members and farmers, acted on intelligence and caught the criminals in the act—hijacking a Toyota Land Cruiser.

As the suspects attempted to flee, a high-speed chase ensued, leading to an intense shootout between them and law enforcement.

  • One suspect was shot and wounded
  • The second suspect was arrested without injury
  • Two victims held hostage in the suspect’s vehicle were rescued unharmed

Weapons, Police Gear, and Signal Jammers Seized

During the arrest, authorities confiscated two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, a military-grade signal jammer, SAPS uniforms, insignia, and equipment a vehicle with blue lights, sirens, and false registration plates.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspects are connected to over 30 hijackings on the N3 Highway.

They are expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on March 20 2025.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
