Western Cape Police Commissioner: No Need for Military Intervention

Meanwhile, Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile stated that deploying the military to gang-ridden areas is unnecessary, as police have the situation under control.

However, authorities are conducting a feasibility study on establishing an additional police station in Delft due to high crime levels.

Patekile highlighted the success of lockdown operations on the Cape Flats, where seven to 14-day stabilisation efforts have yielded positive results in areas such as Bishop Lavis, Mitchells Plain, and Elsies River.

However, Delft remains a concern due to its growing crime rate.

“We must not give gangs a status. These are just criminals, and we are not at a point where military intervention is required. We have the resources and capability to combat crime in the province,” Patekile stated.
