KIMBERLEY’S bikers roared into the spirit of giving on Saturday as several motorcycle clubs and social riders joined forces for a heartfelt initiative, the “Pension Run”. The event aimed to spread festive cheer to three local old age homes: Resthaven, Belgrave Lodge, and Ons Huis.
The riders made generous donations of adult nappies, a costly necessity for many elderly residents, and brought along small gifts for each resident at the homes. Each visit was filled with smiles, gratitude, and a sense of community.
“Life gets so busy, and we sometimes miss the opportunity to connect with the senior members of our community,” one of the organisers said. “This event was about giving back to our elders, showing our appreciation, and bringing joy to their festive season. We also wanted to ease their worries in a small but meaningful way - adult nappies have become so expensive, and we hope this gesture makes things a little easier for them.”
Over 50 packs of adult nappies were handed over to each home, thanks to the support of participants and sponsors. The organisers hope to make the Pension Run an annual tradition to ensure that senior citizens in Kimberley can enjoy a stress-free holiday season.
The day concluded with a braai at the Star of the West, where riders began planning for next year’s event. Entertainment was provided by the Big Band Theory, whose lively performance added to the celebration. The band even donated a portion of their earnings to the cause.
The initiative was organised by an impressive line-up of motorcycle clubs and social riders, including Crusaders MC Omerta Charter, Iron Skulls MC Kimberley, CC Riders MCC Kimberley, Redliners MCC, Harley-Davidson Club SA, and Kanniewarries.
The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to every member and sponsor who contributed to the event. “Your generosity and participation are deeply appreciated,” they said.
The Pension Run demonstrated the power of community and kindness, reminding everyone of the joy that comes with giving back. It is hoped that events like this not only bring joy to the recipients but also inspire others to come together and make a difference.
